Classes for Mom & Family
Eden Medical Center offers free information and referral service to provide you with easy-to-understand health information and referral to resources at Eden or in the community. Our staff will work with you to find the most appropriate maternity and health education classes, programs and resources, as well as health care services and physicians.
Monthly Pregnancy Forum
Every month one of Eden’s maternity nurses, physicians or other health care professionals will present a program on a topic to help you understand and enjoy the special time before your child is born. You will have an opportunity to ask questions of Eden’s experts and to visit the nursery and labor/delivery/recovery (LDR) areas in the maternity unit. (This is just a visit, so be sure to schedule an official tour as well.)
Eden’s Monthly Pregnancy Forum is for mothers and fathers and is held on the first Monday of the month from 7 to 9 p.m. The programs are free. A current schedule of topics is available on-line or by calling (510) 889-5078.

Childbirth Preparation
Taught by certified Childbirth Education instructors, this two-session course will help prepare you for your childbirth experience. The course explores anatomy, the physiology of pregnancy during the last trimester, signs and symptoms of labor, stages of labor, delivery, postpartum recovery and caring for your newborn. Breastfeeding Basics
Prepare yourself for the experience of breastfeeding your child. Breastfeeding Basics is co-sponsored by Hill Physicians Medical Group and covers such topics as breast changes during pregnancy, how to establish a supply of milk, how often to nurse your baby, and how to tell if your baby is getting enough milk. Common issues about latch-on techniques, jaundice, thrush and sore nipples will also be addressed. We recommend this class for interested women who are in the third trimester of pregnancy. Baby Care
Expectant mothers and fathers are invited to attend this half-day workshop to learn how to care for your new baby. Through demonstrations, discussions and class participation, parents-to-be learn about common parental concerns, day-to-day baby care, infant safety, useful supplies for the baby and much more. Classes are held on selected Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to noon. Register early as this class is popular and class size is kept small to allow time for discussion and questions. Sibling Celebration
Preparing your child to be a big brother or sister is important for your expanding family. Sibling Celebration is a special opportunity for children to learn about life with a new baby.
This two-hour class is recommended for children ages two to six and offers story time to foster understanding of the child’s role; safety lessons and basic infant care using a life-sized doll; a slide presentation showing a newborn’s appearance and abilities; and a specially designed T-shirt and certificate.

Eden Medical Center offers a full array of health and wellness classes for the entire family. As you plan for your delivery and as you grow as a family, we encourage you to attend any of our free and low-cost health programs.
